The message here basically being ‘I don’t really need you, but I’m here, and if you can’t deal with how much sauce I have, then leave’. ‘Sauce’ is a return to that "psycho" trope as far as the lyrics go. It's a story chartering vulnerability and emotional exposure. The message of the song is, essentially, that her love for her man is dangerous for her since she has trust issues yet still trusts him so much. Mai’s delivery is varied throughout the track, from slower melodies to faster, higher-pitched moments.

Fun and energetic, with an infectious synth funk bass line paired with these irregular up-tempo drums. The following track ‘Dangerous’ is brilliant. Mai’s lyrics paint the picture of a girlfriend who is controlling and argumentative, with such significant mood swings that she becomes both good and bad for her man. The instrumental here is nothing special, just a fairly standard synth-flavoured DJ Mustard-type beat. Spoken word album opener ‘Emotion’ is the first of these sections. Ella Mai is divided into seven sections, each representing a different facet of Mai’s personality with each section title starting with a letter of her name. Fresh off the viral success of ‘Boo’d Up’ and the newer controversy between herself and R&B artist Jacquees, London-born and DJ Mustard-signee Ella Mai drops her debut album.
